a fictious archive exhibition situated in the future and based on fictional events: the last exhibition organised at CRAC, the subsequent closure of the contemporary arts centre in 2042, its reopening in 2076, and the relaunch of the exhibition series by means of an archive exhibition held in 2078. it is an absurd, yet critical view of the future of certain events, locations, and the artist as a self-driven, mythologized, and hyper-unique individual.

The solo exhibition Snapshots brings together a new series of drawings, an artistbook and a site-specific
walldrawing/projection with live soundtrack. The works are based on the archeology of daily digital data, roaming between
the volatility of the virtual world and the momentum of the physical experience.

Opening Saturday 27.01 from 7pm

Joachim DevilléAlways somewhere different

Working with a variety of themes such as architecture, history and identity in socio-economical and fictional settings, his recent work might be defined as a “dystopian archeology” of our contemporary society.

Joachim Devillé creates site-specific, fictitious archive exhibitions situated in the future and based on fictional events.

Through the praxis of a dystopian archaeology and using the exhibition as a medium, Joachim Devillé investigates an absurd, yet critical view of future events, locations, characters and the artist as a self-driven, mythologized, and hyper-unique individual.

They are embedded in an ever-developping scenario exploring how specific micro-structures in our society and the artist in question may deteriorate over time.

These future, imaginary events as well as fictional characters are site-specifically linked to the locations where these fictitious archive exhibitions are taking place.

Interior drawings turn the unreachable, dreams of succes and wealth, fame and luxury, happiness and beauty into desolate, dark settings.
Ideals of perfection, represented in our contemporary society through social media, magazines, porn, television broadcasts and etcetera are turned into the abscence, and their negation, stripped down until their ultimate banality.

Ungoing series of site-specific walldrawings, focussing on the relation between (the architectural) space and time.

These site-specific walldrawings are momentums of locations, depicting them in (temporary) drawings which are presented in the locations themselves.

The double notion of time and space created by these walldrawings reflects on our position as viewer, as well as on the position of the architectural spaces that are hosting the drawings.
